A NEW MEMBER OF MOJ LAB PAEDIATRICS TEAM

Prof. Mira Samardžić completed her specialisation in paediatrics at the Rebro University Clinic in Zagreb. She attended postgraduate specialist studies in the field of clinical paediatrics and children’s endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb. At the Medical Faculty in Belgrade, she has acquired the title of Master of Medical Sciences in the field of endocrinology. At the same faculty, she defended her doctoral thesis in the area of endocrinology. Finally, she completed several educational training programs in the country and abroad in the field of paediatrics and paediatric endocrinology.

By the decision of the Commission of the Ministry of Health of Montenegro, she received the title of chief physician, paediatrics and endocrinology specialist. She worked at the Institute for Children’s Diseases in Podgorica, and was the Head of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Department. She has over 30 years of experience in diagnosis and treatment of endocrinological, metabolic and rare diseases in children and has made a significant contribution to the development of child endocrinology in Montenegro. Finally, she led and coordinated the work of teams for introducing screening for newborns against innate and hereditary metabolic diseases and diabetes therapies using insulin pumps.

Prof. Samardžić’s fields of interest include: growth and development, growth and puberty disorders, diabetes type 1, rare diseases, thyroid diseases in children, adrenal gland diseases.

Based on the decision of the Medical Faculty in Belgrade, prof. Samardžić was appointed as a mentor for paediatrics doctors specialising in the areas of children’s endocrinology and general paediatrics.

Prof. Samardžić worked as a research associate at the Medical Faculty in Podgorica, and then as a GTA, Assistant and Associate Professor for Paediatrics course at the same faculty, proceeding to become a Full Professor in 2017 at the same institution.

She was the lead researcher in four national research projects and has over 100 authored and co-authored papers, keynote addresses and presentations published in international and domestic journals and at congresses, of which 21 were published in journals indexed in the SCI/SCI Expanded List. According to Google Scholar, the number of citations of those papers so far is -1677.

She is the author of one professional book and several chapters in professional literature. She is a member of the Association of Paediatricians of Montenegro and the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE). She speaks English.
